Research Associate

Mara Pusic joined the Environmental Law Institute as a Research Associate in August 2024. She works on a variety of projects at ELI including the Environmental Law and Policy Annual Review (ELPAR), the Environmental Peacebuilding Association, and the Network for Digital Economy and Environment. She has also contributed to the Environmental Law Reporter's Congressional Updates. 

Prior to joining ELI, Mara was an intern at the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs where she researched ongoing cases of violence against environmental defenders in Latin America who safeguard environmentally protected land. In college, she was a researcher within her school’s Science, Technology, and Public Policy Program, where she partnered with local nonprofits to research topics ranging from Michigan’s energy utility companies to disability inclusive climate action plans. In addition, Mara was Graham Sustainability Scholar and worked with the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development researching state climate trends and their future impact on Michigan's agricultural industry to assist the department in revising its local grant program.

Mara is a recent graduate from the University of Michigan with a B.A. in Public Policy and a concentration in Environmental Policy and Sustainable Development.
