NALGEP is a non-profit organization that represents local government personnel responsible for ensuring environmental compliance and developing and implementing environmental policies and programs. NALGEP's membership includes more than 125 local government entities located throughout the United States, ranging in size from the largest cities to much smaller local communities. NALGEP brings together local environmental officials to network and share information on innovative environmental practices, conduct environmental policy projects, promote environmental training and education, and communicate the view of local environmental officials on key national environmental issues. Since 1997, NALGEP has launched a range of projects related to brownfields and smart growth, convening work groups of local officials and other stakeholders that collaborate in the research and development of new solutions which are presented to federal officials, other stakeholders and the general public.
