Chile’s vast forest resources and vibrant forestry and forest products industries play an important role in the national economy, and sustainable forest management is essential to the health of these resources. Because much of the wood harvested comes from plantations and privately held land, voluntary tools for sustainable management are of increasing importance. Delegates from Chile’s Comisión Nacional del Medio Ambiente (CONAMA) and Corporación Chilena de la Madera (CORMA) will review trends in forest management in Chile, share experiences in implementing voluntary management programs, and discuss Chile’s national forest certification program.
