Meet US EPA Region 1 Administrator Varney and Massachusetts DEP Commissioner Golledge

On February 13, 2006 the Environmental Law Institute will sponsor and Goodwin Procter LLP will host a lunch discussion featuring US Environmental Protection Agency Region I Administrator Robert Varney and Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Robert Golledge.

Robert W. Varney was appointed Regional Administrator for the Environmental Protection Agency’s New England Office by President George W. Bush in August, 2001. Prior to joining EPA, Mr. Varney was one of the nation’s longest serving state environmental commissioners. Appointed by 3 governors, Mr. Varney served as Commissioner for the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (DES) for 12 years. Varney is a former Director of the New Hampshire Office of State Planning. He also served as Executive Director of two New Hampshire regional planning agencies, the Nashua RPC and the Upper Valley Lakes Sunapee Council.

Robert W. Golledge Jr. was appointed Commissioner of MassDEP in June of 2003. Mr. Golledge is a career environmental professional with more than 20 years of experience serving in a variety of positions in state and municipal government including Regional Director of MassDEP’s Central Regional Office, Chief of Staff, and Director of Wetlands and Waterways, Town of Dartmouth Conservation Agent and Lowell’s Environmental Affairs Coordinator. In addition to his state and municipal experience, he was Director of Environmental Sciences at Vanasse Hangen Brustlin.
