California is today experiencing a "Gold Rush" in renewable energy. Many energy companies, attorneys, consultants and environmental organizations are working with federal, state and local governments to find ways to design and develop renewable energy projects that benefit the public while protecting the environment and natural resources. Berkeley Law Center for Law, Energy & the Environment, The Environmental Law Institute and Farella Braun + Martel held a series of bimonthly panel discussions to address the issues involved in renewable energy project development.
Session 8: Is the Sun Still Shining on the US Solar Industry?
The global solar industry has entered a years-long shakeout, and the US market is in turmoil as policy, politics, trade wars and bankruptcies are disrupting the businesses and business models of the past five years. However, with this shakeout also comes opportunity. There is considerable innovation underway within the solar ecosystem: in finance, project development and engineering. This roundtable discussion discussed where the sun is still shining in the US solar industry and what opportunities and challenges lie ahead.
