Support for this activity has been provided through the SIWI hosted Shared Waters Partnership Programme with the support of the Swedish International Development and Cooperation Agency, the United States Department of State, the Government of the Netherlands, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland and the United Nations Development Program.
The Women in Water Diplomacy Network is a community of practice comprised of both formal and informal women decision-makers and experts, representing a wealth of collective experience and expertise in transboundary water management and decision-making engaged in some of the most water insecure regions of the world. Originating in the Nile Basin in 2017, the Network is now a global community of women water leaders (and male champions supporting gender equality) working collectively to strengthen women’s leadership in transboundary water decision making with support from a global coalition of partners and members in basins across Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas. In 2023, the Women in Water Diplomacy Network achieved numerous important milestones building on the launch of the Network’s Global Strategy including advancing regional dialogues, growing our collective knowledge through experience exchange, and elevating women water diplomats voices and perspectives at major international dialogue events including the UN Water Conference. The 2023 Year in Review online event will serve to collectively reflect on the 2023 milestones and gear up for exciting engagements in 2024 including the Second Global Network Forum taking place in early 2024!
This year the event will include updates from Networks in the Nile Basin, Central Asia-Afghanistan, the Orange-Senqu and North America. In addition participants will hear important information on how to participate in the Second Global Network Forum scheduled to take place March 4-8, 2024 in Vienna, Austria.
