Alaska Wetlands: An Opportunity for Protection

The first comprehensive review of wetlands throughout the State of Alaska was conducted in 1983. That study, upon which this article is based, examined wetland types, wildlife habitat values, historic losses, and present development pressures. It also evaluated the effectiveness of the Clean Water Act 404 program, which has engendered controversy in the state, and state regulatory programs.
