Cooperation Is the Key

The recent Everglades settlement provides a comprehensive framework around which the protection of the Everglades can be built. The Fish and Wildlife Service approved the settlement because it contains provisions necessary for the maintenance of the unique wetlands habitat found in the Everglades, including promises by the State of Florida to reduce phosphorus loads entering the Everglades, to conduct research to determine the phosphorus levels that affect the Everglades biota, and to monitor the effectiveness of the cleanup strategies.
