Corps Wetlands Research Program

The primary legislative basis for the Corps of Engineers’ regulatory authority in wetlands is Section404 of the Clean Water Act, which gives the Corps authority to regulate the discharge of dredged or fill material in the waters of the United States. The objective of this legislation is to maintain and restore the biological, physical, and chemical integrity of the Nation’s water quality.
