New Wetlands Policy in California

On August 23, 1990, California Governor Pete Wilson unveiled a new statewide wetlands initiative entitled the California Wetlands Conservation Policy. Citing the loss of as many as 90 percent of the state's original wetlands base, Governor Wilson proclaimed his intent to achieve an overall increase in the quality and quantity of wetlands throughout California while reducing the procedural complexity associated with the state's current regulatory program.
