Saving Floodplains and Insurance Rates

New opportunities have been created for wetlands management through the Community Rating System, a recently developed component of the National Flood Insurance Program. Administered by the Federal Insurance Administration, the CRS rewards communities with reduced flood insurance rates in return for sound floodplain management. Approximately 80 percent of the nation's wetlands are within floodplains subject to the flood loss reduction standards of the NFIP.
