Wetland restoration and protection projects often stem from regulated activities. But promoting voluntary
wetland restoration and protection on private land is a different matter entirely. One way to promote
voluntary restoration and protection on private land is to offer some type of financial incentive to the
landowner. Below, the author looks at low-interest lending programs that can be used to encourage private
landowners to help restore and protect wetlands and to promote water quality.
