A Message From ELI President Scott Fulton on Earth Day

April 2018

(Washington, DC): On behalf of the Environmental Law Institute, I would like to wish a happy Earth Day to one and all.  ELI was not even a year old when the first Earth Day was celebrated back in 1970. And the landscape in which we live has certainly changed. But we remain just as committed today as we did then to achieving our vision of a healthy environment, prosperous economies, and vibrant communities founded on the rule of law.

This is a pivotal moment in time when there is a hunger and desire by countries around the world to address pollution and natural resource challenges through effective governance and rule of law.  ELI remains driven to address this need though our work. Whether we’re working to maximize communities’ resilience to climate change, building the capacity of public interest groups and prosecutors in China, reducing deforestation in Indonesia, or tracking regulatory change here in the United States, we are optimistic that the result of our work will be a better quality of life, enhanced ecosystems, and greater prosperity.

Earth Day serves as a special reminder of the imperative for collaborative action across the globe to preserve and improve the environment. We hope you will take some time today to celebrate Earth Day in your own way.
